Task 5 - Rebuilding, analysing and suggesting improvements to the Rafisa network
In task 5, the existing Rafisa network in GNS3 is to be reconstructed and analysed (ACTUAL topology). Based on the analysis, suggestions for improvement (topology, technologies used, etc.) should then be made (TARGET topology).
5.1 Structure of the Rafisa network topology ACTUAL state
Below LAN architecture Rafisa you will find the documentation of the Rafisa network. Rebuild the topology in the GNS3-VM using Cisco IOSvL2 switches and the pfSense firewall. Leave out the VLANs, we will deal with them in the next task. Build a large subnet 172.16.1.0/24 without segmentation (VLAN). Retain the hostnames of the network devices and the IP addresses specified in the documentation.
Important notes
☛ Start in the basement with the firewall (gateway: IP address 172.16.1.1) and the two switches and work your way up floor by floor
☛ Copy the IP addresses and hostnames of the network devices from the docu
☛ Experiment with the display options to create the clearest possible view of the network.
5.2 Analysing the network
Analyse the existing network with the help of your school documents and the tools listed below. If you have not yet attended any modules on bandwidth calculations and network topologies, consult your colleagues. The Cisco reference topology for building networks is an important analysis tool:
Here you can find the article discussed in the video: Cisco Campus Architecture 3.0
Here you can find the TBZ module 129 documents on bandwidth calculations:
Bandwidth calculations with examples 01
Bandwidth calculations with examples 02
5.3 Proposal for an improved design TARGET state
Create a proposal for an improved topology based on the findings from your analysis. Leave VLANs aside for the moment. Also consider the use of Link Aggregation (LACP) and the Spanning Tree Protocol (STP or STP+). You can also create the design under //diagrams.net before realising it with GNS3.
5.5 Testing the solution
Download the test protocol
Please use the following form to test the solution: Test protocol, which you can download as an ODT template (Libre Office):
Replace the notes in italics with your content. What you want to test and how and how many test cases you need is up to you. The testing must cover the most important aspects of your solution of your solution. As completion of the task the test protocol to your Wekan order upload.
Important notes
☛ Suggestion for testing: Simulate with GNS3 scenarios that show the advantages of your model
